Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking – Trip Overview
Want an adventure in the Himalayas but want it relatively easy, accessible, and with great views and cultural experience? Then you have come to the right place. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is just an ideal destination for you. Poon Hill is one of the famous vantage points of the Annapurna region which allows you to see snow peaks, especially at sunrise.
The actual trek starts from Nayapul. From there you trail through Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Tadapani, Jhinu Danda, and back to Nayapul within 5 days. To get to Nayapul, first, you have to drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara and then drive to Nayapul the next day. During the Ghorepani Poonhill trek, you can enjoy the close-up panoramic views of the Annapurna massif, and the Dhaulagiri range, among many others.
The trek offers a trail through spectacular and tranquil landscapes of lush green terraced fields and quaint mud houses. The trail passes through a beautiful rhododendron forest. Likewise, you will have a unique cultural experience, especially with the Gurung ethnic group. Nepal is known for its hospitality and even in Nepal, this area is considered one of the most hospitable.
From Ghorepani, you get to enjoy 360° views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif, Dhampus (6,012 m/ 19,725 ft), Tukuche (6,920 m/ 22,703 ft), Nilgiri (7,061 m/ 23,166 ft), Macchapuchhre (6,993 m/ 22,943 ft) amongst others. At Poon Hill, bathed in the light of sunrise you can enjoy uninterrupted, panoramic views of Annapurna South (7,219 m/ 23,684 ft), Macchapuchhre (6,993 m/ 22,943 ft), Hiunchuli (6,441 m/ 21,132 ft), Annapurna III (7,555 m/ 24,786 ft), Dhampus Peak (6,012m/ 19,725 ft), and Dhaulagiri II (7,751 m/ 25,430 ft).
The best season for this trek is usually September-November or March-May. But the beauty of this trek is, that it can be done all around the year. You will need two different types of permits to undertake this trek which is the Trekkers’ Information Management Systems (TIMS) and Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP) permit. TIMS cost per person for individual trekkers is USD 20 and per person for group trekkers is USD 10. While ACAP permit costs around USD 30 per person. This is an easy to moderate trek that involves a relatively gentle uphill hike. Since the altitude is low there is no risk of altitude sickness. This trek is a great introduction to trek in the Annapurna Region.

Is this trip moderate for me?
This is a moderate trek suitable for passionate walkers who have the ability to walk at least 5-7 hours a day with a light day pack, if we are in excellent health with average physical fitness and have a positive attitude, self-confidence, and strong determination, we can accomplish this trek successfully and there is not any technical requirement for this trek. If you start to exercise and morning walk regularly for some weeks prior to the trip is a good idea to enhance our strength and stability. Past hiking experience would be better but not mandatory. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, and blood diseases to consult their doctor before taking the trip and inform Himalayan Adventure Nepal before booking this trip.
Best Time to Travel
Autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) are the best time for hiking in the Annapurna region. The weather is fine, warm and beautiful. If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy your time alone with nature, this winter trip (December, January, and February) is also an option. However, for most guests, the temperature in winter can be hard. Hiking during the summer or monsoon season (June to August) will be affected by rain, but summer hiking can be a blessing for interested botanists.
